The relationships that exists between soap stars and viewers is one unlike almost any other in the world of entertainment. The actors who bring our favorite characters to life are invited into our homes five days a week, often for decades at a time. They become part of our extended family. We share their highs and, at times, their lows.

And so it was with a heavy heart that General Hospital vet Tristan Rogers shared this week that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

Although the exact type of cancer is not being disclosed, a statement made clear that the iconic actor “remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan.”

The statement went on to state that this is, of course, a “challenging time” for Rogers and his loved ones. “As they face both the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnoses, the family kindly asks for privacy and understanding.”
