GH’s Daniel Goddard Spills the Tea About the *Real* Reason He’s Out – It’s not fair
General Hospital fans knew Henry Dalton was headed for trouble, but nobody expected his downfall to come this quickly.
After weeks of tension bubbling under the surface, Daniel Goddard’s time on the ABC soap has officially wrapped, closing out a storyline that was teeming with secrets, showdowns, and alliances.
Why Daniel Goddard is leaving General Hospital
Goddard’s Professor Dalton was shot dead on General Hospital by Sidwell, leading to his exit that comes only a few months after he first arrived in Port Charles back in April.
The show made it official, explaining that Dalton was always meant to be a “short-term” character. A spokesperson told Soap Opera Digest, “We can confirm that Daniel Goddard has exited General Hospital as Professor Henry Dalton.”
Executive producer Frank Valentini also wished him well and said, “We wish him all the best in the future.”
Dalton’s storyline blew up in the November 19 episode, when all his secrets finally caught up to him. After getting drunk and confessing to Josslyn that he’d been running illegal animal experiments.
Emma had been side-eyeing him about this for a while. So, he panicked and ran to Wyndemere to meet his partner-in-crime, Sidwell.

The meetup went south fast, and Britt, furious over all the lies and troubles Dalton created, pushed Sidwell to “cut loose” the professor before he caused even more trouble. Sidwell pulled the trigger, killing Dalton and closing his run on the show.
Even though Goddard’s run on General Hospital was short, he definitely left his mark. He actually first auditioned for the show back in 2005, long before his long stretch on The Young and the Restless as Cane Ashby.
Once he landed on GH as Dalton, his storyline quickly connected with Emma, played by Braedyn Bruner, and fans loved their screen chemistry.
Bruner called him “incredibly natural” and “a grounded performer,” and Goddard showed the love right back, saying she was “an absolute pleasure” to work with.
Henry Dalton’s sudden exit leaves a lot of drama behind in Port Charles.
