Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Rachel Recast, Finley Rose Slate return gets new gig…?
Just ahead of the Cannes Film Festival, the upcoming inspirational drama Ethan Almighty (Ethan’s Law) has added a new face to its lineup. Finley Rose Slater is officially joining a star-studded cast that already includes Selma Blair, Brandon Routh, Trevor Donovan, and Sean Patrick Flanery.
Who is Finley Rose Slater Playing?
Slater is stepping into the role of Lilly, a creative, empathetic, and quietly brave young girl who becomes the emotional heart of the movie.

As the main character Ethan’s closest friend, Lilly helps lead the charge to support his recovery and spread the word about animal welfare. She ends up bringing the whole community together.
You might already recognize Slater from her roles in Playing With Fire opposite John Cena, or Don’t Turn Out the Lights, which was directed by Andy Fickman. She also appeared in HBO’s The Idol created by Sam Levinson. On the small screen, she is best known for her five-year run as Rachel Black DiMera on Days of Our Lives, a role that earned her multiple Daytime Child Actor of the Year honors (even from Soap Opera News).
“Finley brings a level of emotional clarity and authenticity that immediately grounds Lilly in truth,” director Tané McClure said. “The character requires both sensitivity and strength, and Finley has a natural ability to convey both with remarkable ease. She is a meaningful addition to this ensemble.”
McClure is directing and producing the film under her McClure Films banner, teaming up with producer Michelle Alexandria of Light Year Pictures.
The Heartbreaking True Story Behind the Movie
Ethan Almighty is based on the incredible true story of Ethan, a dog who was abandoned and left to die under a pile of blankets. Thankfully, he was discovered just in time and nursed back to health by Jeff Callaway and the dedicated team at the Kentucky Humane Society. Callaway, played by Sean Patrick Flanery, formed an unbreakable bond with Ethan during his recovery and eventually adopted him.
Moved by Ethan’s survival, Callaway helped lead a massive public movement. His efforts actually led to the passage of “Ethan’s Law,” a landmark piece of legislation in Kentucky that created much tougher penalties for animal cruelty. The producers say the film is really a story about resilience, empathy, and how simple kindness can change the world.

The rest of the cast brings some serious depth to this journey. Brandon Routh plays Greg Carlson, a calm and just police officer who serves as a moral anchor for the story. Selma Blair portrays Claire Patterson, a woman dealing with personal loss and questions of faith who finds healing through Ethan’s recovery. Trevor Donovan is also set to star.
The real-life events kicked off back in 2021 when Callaway first met an emaciated Ethan at the Kentucky Humane Society in Louisville. Ethan’s journey to wellness quickly went viral, capturing the hearts of the public and sparking real legislative change.
Production is heading to Kentucky, with filming planned for Bardstown as well as the State Capitol in Frankfort, where the real-life historic events actually happened.
