We had an inkling back when Liam was first introduced on Days of Our Lives who his parents might be. With a last name like Selejko, it seemed pretty sure that he had to be related to at least one character from the ‘80s: Ivy Selejko. And we were right!
But, it turns out, things aren’t quite as cut and dry as we thought. On Monday, Sarah told Brady that the Hortons were “loosely connected” to Liam. His half-brother, Charlie, was stepson to Sarah’s sister, Melissa.
If you’re a bit confused as to how that happened, Ivy came to Salem back in 1985, played by Holly Gagnier. At the time, she had her eyes on Pete Jannings.
He was in love with Sarah’s sister, Melissa, but she was on the run after being framed for drug running. (Yeah, things were wild back then.) That was enough of an opening for Ivy and Pete to hookup, which, naturally, resulted in her getting pregnant.

When Melissa finally returned, she told Pete to marry Ivy so their son, Charlie, could have a family. And that’s just what he did. But it didn’t last and the two soon divorced, so that Pete and Melissa could marry, which is when Charlie became Melissa’s stepson!
Ivy moved on for a bit with Mike Horton, then left town with Charlie, never to be seen again. And while we originally pondered that Pete could be Liam’s father, it looks like that’s not the case, since Sarah referred to Charlie as a half-brother.
Right now, Liam’s father is still a mystery — but we may meet him soon! He did tell Gabi that his parents were in town and he didn’t want to leave them behind, so unless he was adopted somehow, that certainly sounds like Ivy is living in Salem once again, with Liam’s dad.
As to how he’s related to Destiny and her deceased sister, Clea… That one’s a bit tougher. He was listed as next of kin for Clea, so that could mean that they were together and she could be the mother of Liam’s kid. Or there could be another family connection we just haven’t figured out yet!
Now that we have this connection, of course, we can see how Liam may have fallen into the wrong crowd since his mom’s brother was Speed Selejko, leader of the Viper Gang that terrorized Salem in the ‘80s! (We’ll say it again. The ‘80s were wild!) Could Destiny and Clea be cousins — maybe through Speed?
Here’s hoping that the show brings Gagnier back, as she’s still very much acting, and was just on General Hospital as mob princess Jennifer Smith a few years back. And hopefully we’ll get some answers as to what’s going on and who’s related to whom!
