General Hospital Comings & Goings: Steve Burton & Finola Hughes Back Filming!

Two Daytime-Emmy winning powerhouses are poised make their General Hospital returns! Both Steve Burton (Jason) and Finola Hughes (Anna) are officially back at the studio and filming again after their respective breaks from Port Charles.

Hughes was last on-screen in February as beloved heroine Anna. That same month, Burton began a planned hiatus from GH, with his final episode airing in March. But both actors were on set on June 1, helping to celebrate a major milestone for the show: the taping of its 16,000th episode.

A rep for the show confirms to Soap Opera Digest that Hughes has already been back at the studio resuming her Anna duties, while June 1 marked Burton’s first day back at work.

General Hospital will welcome two fan favorites back to the screen this summer, now that Steve Burton and Finola Hughes are back at ABC’s Prospect studios, taping new scenes as mobster-with-a-heart-of-gold Jason Morgan and his crime-fighting friend Anna Devane.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted the two stars in a social media video celebrating the soap’s 16,000th episode, signaling that their hiatuses are officially over.

‘General Hospital’ Welcomes Back Jason and Anna

Both Burton and Hughes have been missing from the Port Charles scene for months, as Anna and Jason have been victims of the same story.

Jason was hauled off to international prison in March after taking the fall for shooting a WSB agent, while Anna has been languishing in a French mental hospital after the same crooked WSB agent drove her to have a breakdown.

Burton announced that he was taking a work break in February to spend time with his family, including his wife of one year, Michelle Lundstrom.

The pair spent some time back east in Michelle’s native New York and also enjoyed a vacation in Aruba to celebrate their first anniversary, sharing photos on Instagram. Hughes has been on and off-screen since last fall when Anna was kidnapped.

When Burton began his break, he assured fans he would be back by summer. In April, GH star Chris McKenna (Jack Brennan) commented on X that Hughes was headed back to the set and the behind-the-scenes video proved that to be true.

It also showed Hughes sporting a much shorter bob haircut. There is no word about when both Anna and Jason’s first return episodes will air.

Fans also spotted a new face in the crowd, which has been confirmed to belong to former Glee star Dean Geyer, who will be making his debut as Tristan Roberts later this summer, according to TV Insider.

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and streams each weeknight on Hulu.
