Grimes and Powell joke that their wedding was “a long time coming.” The couple romantically connected in early 2020 after meeting during the pandemic lockdowns in Los Angeles. Two years later, Powell popped the question in an Up-themed proposal on Jan. 7, 2022, Grimes’ 32nd birthday. “Honestly, my mind was blank and all I could say was, ‘Oh, my God,’ over and over again … It was so deeply touching,” Grimes told PEOPLE at the time.

“I knew very early on that I wanted to do life with this person, and we have had some crazy things to contend with thus far,” she continued after her engagement. “Every day we choose each other, so as a team, anything seems possible.”

The next chapter for the newlyweds will consist of a family trip to New Zealand, then a Fiji getaway for just the two of them. Plus, lots of pets, travel and rest. The near future will also involve some work, as Grimes and Powell plan to collaborate on a children’s book dedicated to their son in honor of their passion for reading bedtime stories to him.
