“I don’t know exactly what’s going on with Chase,” Todd, 57, said in the penultimate episode of The Chrisleys: Back to Reality‘s first season, airing on Tuesday, Sept. 16, while sitting in the confessional alongside his wife Julie Chrisley.

“For about four years, Chase has had stomach issues. When I saw him, I thought that my heart was going to break because I realized how thin he was.”

Chase’s declining health has been documented on this season of the Lifetime reality show, as Chase, 29, shared that he’s unable to keep food down, prompting him to undergo medical tests as his weight continues to drop.

“Chase was my one that really struggled. His whole world came crashing [down],” Julie, 52, said, referencing Chase’s struggles with alcohol while she and Todd were incarcerated. The disgraced financiers returned home after 28 months in prison for tax evasion, fraud and conspiracy, after being pardoned by President Donald Trump.

Todd said that he’s “been on top of [Chase] since I got home … to the point where Chase is irritated right now,” he continued, mimicking his son talking: “‘I’m 30 years old! I don’t need my dad going to the doctor with me!’ And I said, ‘Well, clearly you do … because you still haven’t gotten to the bottom of this.’ “

While Todd admitted that he “doesn’t know if Chase is still drinking,” he said, “I will know because Chase is one of those that you know from the first sip if he’s drinking,” and Julie nodded in agreement.

“If he is, he’s not gonna come around me for me to call it out. I don’t personally believe he’s drinking right now,” Todd continued, admitting, “I don’t know if that’s me lulling myself into a false sense of hope or if he’s actually not.”

“Whatever’s going on, I just want Chase to be healthy,” Julie said. “I want him to be mentally in a good headspace … I want the best for him.”

“I want him to find his place. Get in his groove. I know what he has the potential to be,” she said. “When Chase is on, and when he’s good, he’s so good. But when he’s not—” she said, as the screen showed his mugshot from a January bar fight — “he’s just not.”

“I’ve been worried for his health since I have been in prison, so it’s very, very important to me,” she said, adding, “I have always said, ‘You are only as happy as your saddest child.’ “

The Chrisleys: Back to Reality is streaming on the Lifetime App.
